Pre-flight wetsuit and equipment checks ahead of 2021’s surf season.

This doesn’t just apply to surfers. This can be for anyone who has a penchant for water and has been holed up at home, away from the brine during winter. You may have been stuck because of COVID restrictions, or alternatively you could be a fair weather type, holding out for warmer days.

Whatever your circumstances it’s now time to dust of the old faithful and give it a once over. Your surfboard, SUP board, kite equipment or windsurf gear should be inspected thoroughly for any lurking damage such as dings. If you find something then get it repaired (or do it yourself). The last thing you need is rocking up at the beach, for that all important first surf sesh of the season, only to find your sled full of holes.

Pre-flight checks also go for your rubbery protection. The water’s still fairly cold currently so you’ll most likely be wearing your thicker wetsuit. Get it out, hang it up, dry it out and give it a once over. If your wetty has small nicks and tears then grab the Black Witch and sort that way. Unfortunately, some wetsuits reach a point where they’re beyond salvage. In this instance it’s time to stump up and get a new one. It so happens we know just the place! Get in touch if you require brand new rubber.

Consider your kids as well. If they’re about to be immersed they too will need the right clobber. NCW does a range of kiddy specific wetsuits so we can help here as well if needed.

Ultimately preparation is key. Having all your surf kit sorted, ready for kick off means that first wave will be all the sweeter. Don’t put your pre-flight checks off as the green light will illuminate pretty soon!
