More summer fun: bungee SUP take #2 & bungee SUP foiling!

We published a post about bungee stand up paddle board bungee here. To further prove how accessible and easy to get involved it is we had Mr Oli Lane-Peirce (who’s been featured on NCW’s blog before) have a blast on the rope.

As you can see from the images OLP managed to get his first bungee SUP rides no issue. And that’s using a much smaller stand up paddle board than he’s been previously used to, With tension in the rope, it was a quick hop up onto the McConks iSUP and away he went. Asking what he thought of bungee SUPing Oli’s response was ‘it’s pretty cool and something to have fun with on warm, sunny summer days’. Indeed, we concur…

After messing about in SUP bungee mode it was time to bust out the SUP foil board and get some bungee aided flights under our belts. With some foils the take off speed required is much lower so makes the recoil of a bungee deliver just enough momentum to lift. From then, it’s a case of the rider pumping the foil to keep at height.

For anyone with prior foiling experience, it’s a pretty easy way to achieve foiling runs at flat water venues. And a higher volume SUP foil board can work fine. The trickiest part can be the start whereby you have to get in as shallow a water depth as you dare (a short foil mast helps here) before releasing the bungee’s tension and hopping up with a beach start pop to feet action. A few goes will probably be needed to get accurate foot placement as the rider has a short amount of time to get comfortable and begin the pump. Get it right, however, and it’s all smiles.

As we said in the initial bungee SUP post this is all about making the most of flat summer conditions. The variety of watersports equipment available means there’re so many options to have fun. You just have to choose your poison and get creative.
