It’s been a fab summer for most. A summer that seemingly just kept on giving. Days upon days of sunny, hot weather which has delivered plenty of motivation for getting outdoors and/or in the ocean. At the time of writing (Sept 5, 2020) schools are now back and there’s a distinct whiff of seasonal change in the air.
But fear not as autumn can be the best season! And there’ll be plenty of opportunity to get some salt in your hair.
Surfers love this time of year as surf breaks are quieter, there’s more chance of solid swell and the water’s at its warmest. Whilst nights are drawing in there’s still just about enough light for a few remaining after work sessions.
Windsurfers and kiters are also frothing with excitement as along with swell you get more chance of breeze. Combined with the aforementioned other benefits autumn is great to be a wind head.
And those not looking for such full power conditions will still find what they’re after. Morning and evenings are a little cooler but (finger’s crossed) daytime air temps can still be very pleasant at this time of year. For a few weeks, there’s no need to don thick rubber. Thinner layers are definitely still in fashion.
Recreational paddle boarding is a great early autumn activity. As is just frolicking at the beach, river or lake. If you’re in a position to get afloat for dawn’s crack paddling this is a great period for some early doors SUP action.
It’s hard not to feel a little down with the changing of seasons. We all know Jack Frost isn’t too far away. And for many that’s a depressing thought. Although, just as with any time of year winter has its great days. And with the right gear anything’s possible…
