If you scan NCW’s webshop you’ll find a plethora of rubberised goods, from wetsuits of all shapes and sizes to the many accessories you’ll need for all season watersports. What mightn’t be obvious is the amount of work we put in to our own NCW branded gear. All these items have been painstakingly created, prototyped, tweaked and finalised to ensure North Coast Wetsuit’s own brand products stand up and compare to others you’ll find on the market. We know our onions when it comes to wetsuits. In fact, we know watersports in general and what’s needed (equipment wise) to enhance the whole experience for you guys.

Prototyping wetsuits is an ongoing process. It’s starts at the drawing board where we decide what ‘need’ the product being focused on will fulfill. From there it’s a case of sifting through material specs and coming up with layups that fit the requirements of what we’re trying to achieve. Understanding different neoprene and what these materials can do is a big part of the process. We also assess who the suit will be for and what budget it’ll fit. That’ll dictate things such as stitching and panel gluing and how reinforced a wetsuit needs to be. For instance, a more affordable wetsuit won’t have all the bells and whistles of a full on, high performance winter wetsuit created with the hardcore in mind. NCW still stakes its reputation on good quality products whatever the price point though.

We’ve recently been putting a new 4/3mm wetsuit through its paces. The one in the accompanying pics if you were wondering. Its detailing includes smooth skin paneling on the back and chest, as well as an anti-flush inner overhead panel. The whole wetsuit is made from a more eco-friendly limestone material. It’s super stretch but still snug fitting with polypro, air trapping, heat retaining materials inside as well as smooth skin wrist, ankle and neck seals to round the whole thing out. We’re pretty confident this’ll be a real winner for anyone who decides to purchase one. They should be available in time for autumn so keep your eyes peeled for the suits landing.
