Friends of NCW, Tez Plavenieks and his wife, recently took delivery of a men’s and ladies Typhoon Vortex 3mm wetsuit pair. No stranger to writing reviews we asked him to give us some feedback on both suits.
‘Having never owned a Typhoon wetsuit before we took a punt and asked Mark Graham (NCW owner) for both a men’s and ladies Vortex wetsuit. Typhoon suits came highly recommended by him. Having previously used only NCW own branded rubber we were keen to see how they stacked up.
First off is how smooth these wetsuits feel to the touch. Neoprene technology has evolved to such a state that previously rough rubber surfaces are now more akin to silky underwear! Yep, if something fits like that then for watersports you know you’re onto a winner. Yet the Vortex remains stretchy with no loss of integrity after a handful of uses. Stretch is good for getting the suit on off and movements that require long reach, such as windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding and surfing. But any wetsuit needs to stay snug fitting to avoid unnecessary water flush.
Seals of both the ladies and men’s Vortex 3mm wetties are secure but without causing unnecessary fatigue in key areas like wrists. Again, this also stops flushing of water so aids keeping those inner cores toasty.
One thing we did wonder about was whether the Vortex would stand the test of time in terms of durability. You’d be forgiven for thinking the material used wouldn’t take much of beating. And yet, we can attest to the fact that after scrambling around shingle beaches, climbing on and off boards and putting both suits through their paces there ‘s no sign of significant wear and tear. Therefore both tick the durability box.
All in both the ladies and men’s Vortex 3mm wetsuits are premium neoprene products without the premium price tag. There’s no question any owner would be more than happy to add them to their watersports kit bag, for warmer off season temperatures or colder high season weather.’
