Downhill skateboarding for surfers.

Downhill skateboarding is something we encourage. We’re only too happy to promote the benefits of watery lifestyles. f we didn’t, considering the type of business we are, we’d be idiots! NCW appreciates, however, that certain weather brings lame waves and this is when it’s time to take it to the land. Downhill skateboarding can certainly tick the adrenaline fix box.

Downhill skateboarding – no flat spells!

As surfers, there’s nothing more frustrating than flat spells or relentless onshores – the latter probably the most ‘grumph’ inducing. But fear not as longboard skating (or even street style shredding) has always been a secondary sport wave sliders can call on. Not everyone wants to grind, slide and pop off huge sets of stairs – although if this is your bag then fair play.

Flat land longboarding can be just as fun as downhill skateboarding.

Longboarding in contrast offers riders the chance to cruise and blast along asphalt working on that important steeze/style factor. At one end of the spectrum, you can stretch out those soul arches, as you would nose riding, while for speed freaks testing mettle, hurtling along tarmac, is more the thing.

Multiple discipline is a good thing.

Adopting multiple disciplines of board riding is a good thing. Fitness and muscle memory will remain tuned for that next pulse of swell and rider stoke levels are less likely to dip. The synergy between all board riding disciplines is tangible. Skating can help your surfing and vice versa. Whatever style you choose is open to interpretation. And there’s a raft of kit aimed at all riding flavours.

It doesn’t have to end with downhill skateboarding either. A plethora of alternative surfing options are available for those with a desire to slide. So next time you find yourself staring forlornly out to sea at less than inspiring surf conditions, consider your options. Adding to your bag of tricks is a way to increase your stoke fire – you just have to get out and find what that something is.
