Don’t be a bore – chilly River Severn wave sesh (Feb 2016)

One of the colder surfing experiences you can have in the UK is surfing the River Severn’s infamous tidal bore. We say colder as the optimum time to score this freak of nature always seems to be in the dead of winter. When thermometer readings are barely touching 0C, thick blankets of mist shroud the surrounds and a pick axe is needed to break the ice before entering the brine bore addicts apparently see fit to get involved. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the accompanying shots from Severn bore rider Steve Potter.

River Severn bore feb 2016

He and his mates came to NCW for added neoprene protection during one of their recent bore sliding adventures. In this instance they nabbed a few of our thermal long johns to wear underneath standard wetties as added layering. From his feedback (‘impressed by the heat retention’ and ‘I know where I’ll be heading for all my winter gear’) we take it he’s suitably impressed.
